The African culture used to be an oral culture as you all know. Stories and history was carried out by griots from generation to generation.

The objective of this blog is to showcase the best writing out of the continent or by Africans in the diaspora.

As far as I am concerned, this is the first bilingual blog on the web.

Sauf erreur de ma part, ceci est le premier blog bilingue qui traite de literature Africaine sur le web.

Blog posts will be written in english as well as in french to reflect the diversity in the continent. Some french-speaking authors have been translated in english, but very few authors have had that privilege bestowed on them.

Les Blog posts seront écrit aussi bien en anglais qu’en français pour refléter la diversité sur le continent.

I love this quote: ” We are not Africans because we are born in Africa but because Africa is born in us”.

As Chinua Achebe said “If you don’t like someone’s story write your own”.

In this  blog, we will be mainly talking about books by African authors on a multitude of subjects: politics, literature, fiction and biography.

There will be books reviews, discussions and news about the authors. Plus, there will be from time to time news about upcoming books and events around the world.

We understand that books are open for discussion and as such we would like to use this blog as a platform to exchange opinions. Cocktails and book clubs meetings will also be organized by Under The Neem Tree in order to continue the discussion started here offline.
